The most effective treatment occurs during 0 to 3 years old. The effect under early intervention before 3 years old is ten times more influential than after 3 years old. Baby class was established in 2009 with professional very early intervention to reduce the level of disability, adaptation, and social cost.
Due to the increasing needs of very early intervention, Maria Head Start Program was founded in 2010. With the cooperation of the director of Graduate Institute of Early Intervention, National Taichung University of Education, Prof. Dr. Fu, Siou-Mei, doctors, therapists, and special educators created the first experimental plan for 0 to 3 year-old toddlers with lagged development in Taiwan. Since its establishment, we have served 87 families with home-like and center-based scenario and the involvement of parenting.
Prof. Dr. Fu, Siou-Mei and our team developed Maria Baby‧Parent-child activities Guide "Learning Kit" and parenting booklet for 0 to 3 year-old children with lagged development, which constitutes four areas of ‘self-care’, ‘fine movement’, ‘language’ and ‘cognition’, and 40 toys combined with 118 family activity introduction. We hope to improve the ability of children through this tool and plan.
